We humans obtain direction and counsel from beings who dwell in the spiritual realm in a variety of ways; one of the more common vehicles for such communication is dreams. While our bodies recline in slumber, messages from our angels and spirit guides are conveyed to us via dreams. Most often, the dreams we receive are unsolicited and contain lessons which our guardians know will help us deal with life's issues and situations. There are certain times, however, when dreams hold answers to specific prayers and petitions for assistance.
In previous columns, the dreams I have used as illustrative examples are those which I have interpreted for other people. This month I decided to drawn upon one of my own experiences in order to demonstrate how dreams arrive in direct response to prayers and supplications. This particular dream came to me in June, 2001, several months after my gift of clairvoyance had started to manifest. Due to the spiritual transformation which was happening so rapidly and drastically within my being, I found myself in a quandary over just what I should do with my life at that point in time.
The spiritual transformation taking place was so profound, that I no longer felt entirely comfortable in my day job as a paralegal with a downtown Los Angeles law firm. I believed strongly that my true calling was to assist people with their own emotional and spiritual growth by using the gifts of clairvoyance and the ability to interpret dreams in order to deliver messages. Feeling hampered and limited, I longed to leave the legal environment behind and move completely into the metaphysical world of dream analysis and healing sessions. I wanted to help people, yet also required a steady income to support myself and two teenagers. Confused and puzzled over what to do, I decided to ask the Higher Power to help me sort things out. One night before going to sleep, I said a little prayer and asked for clarity as to whether I could leave my job, or if I needed to remain there a bit longer.
Much to my surprise, I received the answer to my question in a vivid dream that very night! In this distinct dream, I was situated in an apartment building which was undergoing renovation. The building was clearly in the middle of a huge overhaul, and I had to step over paint, equipment and drop cloths just to walk around. During this dream, I was shown a very attractive man (one who bore a very strong resemblance to a man whom I had dated briefly during the prior summer). In the scene I was presented with, it seemed I had spent the evening with this "dream" man the night before. I'd had a taste of his company and I wanted more. This man was in an entirely different apartment building, and I desperately wished to go there and be with him. I did not at all want to be in the building I was in, in the midst of all the chaos and construction work.
Enter the two main partners from the law firm where I work. They seemed to be everywhere, making it impossible for me to leave the premises. It was not as if they were forcing me to stay, however I just knew that I could not leave, even though my heart was elsewhere, and I strongly wished to be with the man whom I was attracted to. The two partners were smiling and content.
When I awoke the next morning, the meaning became apparent to me. The assistance I had prayed for was shown to me in the dream of the night before. The apartment building characterized the place where I worked. In the dream, the building was undergoing extensive renovations, and this was actually symbolic of the people who worked in my office, many of whom were going through personal changes (i.e., renovations.) In the dream, I wanted to be with the man who I was drawn to, and this vision represented that I wished to be somewhere else; my heart was not in the place where I was physically situated.
I understood clearly that I had been given the answer to my question via this dream. It was not time for me to leave the law firm yet. There was more for me to do there, and I was to be part of the "renovations" and changes which were taking place within the office. Although my heart yearned to be elsewhere, it was not the appropriate time to leave. A year and a half later, I work there still. My desire in sharing this dream experience is to illustrate one of the ways in which we receive assistance from the spiritual realm. It is amazing and wondrous to realize that all you have to do is ask, and then observe as the answers are revealed.
It is as simple as saying a prayer and communicating to Spirit that you have a
dilemma, or a question you need help with. When making a conscious appeal for help, pay very close attention to the dreams you have over the next few days, as your answer may be contained therein. One thing to keep in mind when requesting assistance from the spiritual realm, is to remain open to the answers which you receive. The response might be surprising, and may not be exactly what you were hoping for, but remember that God sees the universal picture and knows what is best for all. The answer you receive will be the one which you need at that very moment in time.
